Do people know their actions have consequences?

It’s amazing when people live their lives hiding their scandalous ways and living in public among us and we have no clue until their schemes get busted. And as the world goes today, The American Greed is alive and doing well.
Is it worth living 40-50 years of your life under a falsehood, under lies, but living the high life. Living in mansions, sailing the oceans in your yacht, traveling to far away places, always having the best seats wherever you go? According to anyone who has gotten away with stealing money through Ponzi Schemes believe the risk outweighed the consequences.
Bernie Madoff got caught in a 50 billion dollar ponzi scheme that ruined lives, charities and killed his family members, now there is Allan Stanford who may not created a 50 billion dollar ponzi scheme, but instead it was a mere 7 billion dollar ponzi scheme. Does it matter that one was a 50 billion dollar ponzi scheme and the other was a 7 billion dollar ponzi scheme? Nope, because both these guys will be spending the rest of their lives in jail. So was it worth it to them now?
Bernie got caught around the age of 70 years old. Not bad, and Allan is 62 years old and that doesn’t sound so good. At least Bernie lived the high life through his 60′s, but how long will these guys be cooped up in jail until they die?
So the question is, do you live life for the moment and take chances and hopefully live the high life for a very long time, or do you get caught right away and end up in jail for the rest of your life when you get caught at 18 years old, 25 years old, or 40 years old. Being 60 or 70 years old and getting prison for life is still a very long time being jailed, because death is not around the corner unless someone takes you out or you take yourself out.
